We’ve compiled a number of Superman reviews below to help you decide if this hopeful blockbuster is worth your time and/or your money when they are released on July 11 …

(Warner Bros)

Easy the best superman movie made in my lifetime. – Matt Singer, Screen Crush

It lacks the top level of the superhero cinema. I would characterize the movie as good at the next level (a list that includes Iron Man, Thor, Batman Begins, Captain America and the hugely underrated Iron Man 3). – Owen Gleiberman, Variety

So far, this has been the century of the cartoon movie, and … while Superman is not one of the best films of the 21st century, it represents the genre well. – Scott Phillips, Forbes

Gunn and his team deliver a Superman movie that feels worthy of the character’s inheritance. – Danielle Solzman, Solzy in the movies

This is not your grandparents’ Superman, but it is also more true in the method of his on-side adventure than something we have seen on theater screens so far. – Track Sauveur, Awardwatch

(Warner Bros)

A breath of fresh air … In an era saturated with dark anti-heroes, Superman is refreshingly idealistic-not in a saccharin way, but in a way that feels rebellious, even radical. – Jamie Broadnax, Black Girl Nerds

Perhaps the greatest strength is that it equates all the revisionist grumble of superheroes on screen in the last decade or two and almost returns to an enchanting state of children -like wonder. – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

What makes Superman work is the same thing that has made Gunn’s other adaptations so loved: As a filmmaker, Gunn is not afraid to embrace the cartoon elements in the heart of the source material. – Spencer Perry, ComicBook.com

Like opening a random topic in your local cartoon shop, Superman falls right into the action and expects the audience to be already familiar with the characters and the world. – Sheraz Farooqi, Cinema Debate

As both a story on your own and a prequel to a whole bunch of others, this movie will introduce us to a number of characters we meet later, and it does without feeling too much as a fan service or exposure. – Amber Wilkinson, New York Times

A Superman movie lives or dies by chemistry between Clark and Lois – and this one works definitely … their quarrel crushes, and their emotional connections ring. – Danielle Solzman, Solzy in the movies
