In March 2025, the Apple MAC study updated for the first time since June 2023. The MAC study is now being delivered with either an M4 Max or M3 -Ultra chip -yes, these are different chip generations, but M3 Ultra is still the more powerful (and expensive option).
In our review of the M4 Max Mac Studio we were impressed and described it as “an average machine ideal for the most hectic production environments.” The MAC study is the hands down the fastest Mac right now (at least until Apple updates the MAC Pro with an M4 Ultra if it ever does).
It will be a while before we start seeing big offers on the Mac study. However, we have seen some discounts and you can also see some offers on M2 generation Mac Studio and used modes can be sold in Apple’s renovated store.

What you need to know

The Mac study can be configured with an M4 Max chip, as seen in 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, or you can choose an M3 Ultra, which is essentially two M3 Max chips, and while a generation is older, ever faster than M4 Max.
The MAC study starts at $ 1,999/£ 2,099 for the M4 MAX model. MAC study with M3 Ultra starts at $ 3,999/£ 4,199. There are also different options for build-to-order.
