Apple has released the third beta of iOS 18.6. With all the new features and attention to iOS 26, this release is probably simply a bug fix and compatibility update. But even though there are no visible changes to iOS 18.6, it may be necessary to support new hardware Apple in the fall, such as AirPods Pro 3 or the upcoming HOM hub device.
As such, 9TO5MAC noticed the following string in the code:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProgressUI.framework/apple-logo-1088@2x~home.png
The image of this string has “~ home.png” in it, a structure not used in other images, and can be referred to the rumored upcoming Home Hub or “Homepad” device. This does not mean that such a device comes soon, only that it is in active development within Apple.
The EU App Store changes
Apple is rolling the new App Store guidelines and a new user experience for them in the EU in an attempt to comply with the EU’s digital market law. Critics say Apple’s new terms are intentionally confusing, do not comply with the EU law and punish developers even more than before if they choose to avoid the App Store and distribute their apps themselves.
iOS 18.6 includes a new user experience when customers try to install an alternative app market or install apps directly from the Internet. This only applies to customers in the EU.
