In these days, iPhones can do a lot – and we mean very. From photography and video editing to games and artificial intelligence, it’s enough to make you forget that they too, you know, make phone calls and send text messages.
With all these heading features, it is not surprising that a bunch of smart capabilities slip through the cracks. Whether you are an Apple veteran or an iOS new joints, we know that there are scores of interesting iPhone features that you never knew existed. Here we have rounded off some of the best iPhone settings you are probably not using.
Namedrop: Share easily contacts
Namedrop that allows you to touch two iPhones together to exchange contacts is a good example of Apple’s seamless and intelligent integration between hardware and software, and this is something that few other telephone manufacturers could pull off.
Just take the top ends of two iPhones running iOS 17 or later close to each other and hold them there until you see a bubble-like animation show on their screens. How many times have you seen an animal or a plant and found yourself scraping your head over what it was? With your iPhone, there is no need to be abandoned to wonder what you saw – just use a visual look up.
Barely just a photo of that animal or system, open the image in the photos app and then iron up. You can see an opportunity to look up plant or look up animals that show likely battles and similar images.
If you have an iPhone with camera control, you can use the visual intelligence feature to utilize Apple Intelligence or Chatgpt to get similar help. Press and hold camera control for a few seconds until a new camera window bursts on your screen. Point your camera to that object and an animal or plant name appears at the top. (If it says “Maybe” press the name to see a few options for what it might be. If chatgpt is more secure, it will show the name of what it thinks it is and you can press it to get some information.)

Song recognition: Identify music that you hear
Shazam is a great way to discover a new song or identify the ear worm songs that you can’t quite remember the names of – but with your iPhone you don’t have to open the Shazam app yourself every time. You can place a practical Shazam button right into the control center for quick access instead.
Open the control center by pushing down from your iPhone’s upper right corner. From here, press + in the upper left corner, press Add a checkType “Recognize Music” in the search box, and then press the result. Next time you hear a song you can’t identify, open the control center and press the Shazam button and it identifies the song within seconds.

Timer check: Start a countdown in a short time
There is another practical hidden feature that can be found in the control center that allows you to quickly create a timer without chasing the clock app.
You probably know that you can jump to the timer section in the clock by pressing the Dedicated Control Center button, but you may not know that there is an even shorter shortcut. Press and hold the timer button in the control center and a slider appears on your screen. Move your finger up or down the slider to increase or reduce the duration of steps in one minute and press Start to begin.
Flashlight: Adjust the width of your beam
Everyone knows your iPhone can provide a useful flashlight to guide you through the dark. But did you know that you can adjust the width and distance of its beam on just a few taps?
To do so, press to turn on your phone’s flashlight (or ask Siri) and the icon will appear on the dynamic island. It is not just a reminder that it is on – Tap it and you will be able to adjust the light beam by moving to the left (to make the beam narrower and more intense) or right (to make it wider and more diffuse). You can also move your finger up and down to increase or reduce the strength of light as usual.

Target: Use iPhone’s hidden virtual ruler
Most of us do not carry tape measures with us, but there are times when we need one. Not to worry – your iPhone actually has a hidden measure app that can help.
To find it, press the search box on your iPhone’s Home screen and type “Measure” to find the measuring app. Open it and it activates the rear camera with two settings: Dimensions and Level. To measure something, target your phone to one edge of the object you want to measure, press Plus (+) symbol, and then move your camera to the other edge and press the plus symbol again. The length of the object appears on your screen. You can calculate several lengths by tapping + again after you have done the first measurement.
On the iPhone 12 Pro or later with a Lidar Sensor you can move your phone near the item and the line will be transformed into a ruler showing incremental length units. Pro -phones can also measure the height of a person that appears in the measurement of the measuring app.

Widgets are not only for the Home screen – you can also add a few to your lock screen to view data with a moment.
To add widgets to your lock screen, press and hold the screen until Customize The button appears. Press it, and then press the lock screen. During time you see an empty rectangle with a box marked Add Widgets Under that. Just press all widgets from the list and they are added to this box.

App Tracking: Stop apps from following your activity
When you open an app for the first time, you may be able to see a pop-up window asking if you want to let the app track you across other apps and sites. If you find yourself getting tired of repeatedly pressing “Ask app not to track”, there is a simple solution that will reject tracking attempts once and for all.
Open the Settings and Naviger app to Privacy and security > TrackingDisable then the shift next to Allow apps to request to track. When you do this, you will not get any more requests to be traced-there is listed this shift tells iOS to automatically reject all app tracking attempts on your behalf so you can protect your privacy without all the annoying pop-ups.
Default apps: Open links in the apps you want
For years, Apple devices are heavily locked down, and it is even expanded to check your default apps for E -mail, web browsing and more. However, this is no longer the case, so if you want to change your default apps, it is now easier than ever.
To start customizing your app choices, open the app Settings and go to Apps > Standard apps. You can see more options, from E -mail and Messaging to web browsing and translation. Just press one, then select an app from the resulting list. Your settings will be limited to apps installed on your iPhone, so make sure you have downloaded your selected apps before you get started.

Text replacement: Give the thumbs a break
Tired of writing all the time? Use Text replacement. This automatically fills out words and phrases when you enter a shortcut. For example, you can create a text replacement shortcut that enters your E -Mail address when you write @@@ or automatically capitalize BBQ when you write BBQ ..
This feature can be enabled in Settings> General> Keyboard> Text Explacement. There you need to press + to add a new entry. The shortcut box contains the condensed word or phrase you want to use while the sentence box is for the full version that will be inserted by your phone.
Alternatively, if there is a word or phrase that you Don’t do it Want to be corrected, create a new post -replacement item and enter it in the same field but store Shortcut box empty.
