Convention of Convention denies that cracking joke about wheelchair-bound Texas Governor

Reading time: 3 minutes

Congress women Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is in hot water today thanks to the recent comments about Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

When he spoke at the Human Rights Campaign’s 2025 dinner in Los Angeles on Saturday, Crockett made what some believe was an offensive referral to Abbott’s disability.

“We in these hot-a-Texas streets, honey,” said Crockett, adding:

“You know we got Governor hot wheels down there. Come on. And the only thing that is hot about him is that he is a hot ass mess, honey.”

Abbott, 67, has been limited to a wheelchair since 1984 when an oak tree fell on him while jogging.

For obvious reasons, many jumped to the conclusion that Crockett’s remark about “Hot Wheels” was a reference to his injuries.

But in a tweet broadcast moments ago, the 43-year-old legislator insisted that this was not the case:

“I didn’t think about the governor’s condition – I thought of the planes, trains and cars he used to transfer migrants to communities led by black mayors, deliberately stabbed tensions and fears among the most vulnerable,” Crockett wrote.

“Literally, the next line I said was that he was a” warm a ** mess, “referring to his horrible policy. At no time did I mention or approached his condition,” she continued.

“So I’m even more horrified that the very people who unequivocally support Trump – a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking them with disabilities – are now furious.”

Crockett ended by accusing Republicans of using his remarks as a distraction from recent negative news stories relating to the Trump administration.

“Keep the same energy for all people, not just your political opponents,” she wrote, adding:

“Finally, this is yet another distraction. Instead of occupying and hanging on to my every word, my political enemies might need to focus on doing the work for the people who chose us to improve their lives.”

As is typically in these very combating times, the answers to Crockett’s tweet were overwhelmingly hostile:

“You are an ignorant, incompetent distraction. You must have been through the school because of DEI because you certainly did not earn it as ignorant as you still are,” came a cool answer.

“You’ve ever noticed you people who never hold you to the same standards that you have your Republican colleagues. Just an observation of what absolute POS hike you are,” wrote another annoyed user.

Republicans in Texas have called on Crockett to be censored, but it is still unclear whether Congress will take any formal disciplinary action.
